A remedy for cold and cough using Indian ginger

Most of us would have suffered from cold and cough atleast once in our life time. I will suffer from cold and cough often. I won’t go to hospital for this now a days because the cough syrup doctors prescribe makes me drowsy all the day so I will rely only on home remedy by preparing decoctions, drink and get relieved soon.

Today let us see a remedy for cold and cough using Indian ginger (Sitharathai in tamil),

Ingredients:

  • Indian ginger (Sitharathai in tamil)-10 gm
  • Dry ginger-5 gm

  • Cardamom- 5 gm

  • Long pepper(thippili in tamil)-5 gm
  • Palm candy- as needed

  • Cow’s milk-as needed

  • Water-100 ml

Preparation:

  1. Roast indian ginger till golden brown and take it in a bowl
  2. Roast dry ginger till golden brown and add it to the bowl
  3. Roast Cardamom till golden brown and add it to the bowl
  4. Roast long pepper till golden brown and add it to the bowl
  5. Add palm candy and grind to get its powder
  6. Boil water in a pan
  7. Add 5 gm of the powder and 5 tsp. of cow’s milk to it
  8. Boil it well
  9. Strain the decoction and drink

Usage:

  • Adults can drink 100 ml of this decoction daily once(morning or evening) after food
  • Children can drink 50 ml of this decoction daily once(morning or evening) after food
