Periyar Tiger Reserve, Thekkady, Kerala

Last Wednesday night, we started our trip with my mom’s family members. We reached kattapana Thursday morning. After refreshing and breakfast, we went to Periyar National Park, also known as Periyar Tiger Reserve. It is situated in the Western Ghats of Kerala, southern India.

There is a minimal entrance fee. They will pick up by mini bus from entrance and will drop back to the entrance. Boating charges are as shown below,

We waited for half an hour after taking tickets for boating. We could see monkeys snatching food, things from people. Please be careful with monkeys here.

We captured photos during this time and had fun. This is the view of the lake from boating entrance.

We started our boating around 1.45 p.m and enjoyed the nature’s beauty. This one and half hour cruise will take into the interior of the periyar tiger reserve where you can feel boating in dense forest.

We could see group of deers drinking water, buffaloes, bison, birds etc. during our ride but no tigers are spotted. The boating is very slow and so many of us got bored in the middle of boating but I enjoyed the ride well. While boating, it rained and it was super cool…

Here are few pictures taken during boating,

Overall, the boating is very relaxing and super scenic. Don’t ever visit this place to see tigers :p. Please carry snacks an water with you but beware to pack it well inside the bag to prevent monkeys snatching it from you.
